Weather Questions

What if it rains?

We DO NOT cancel boat tours for rain. You should expect that there is a possibility that you may get wet.

Our captains do everything possible to avoid weather while out on the water. They all have weather radar and alerts and check several times during boat tours to stay on top of developing weather conditions. There’s a saying in Florida – “If you don’t like the weather, then just wait five minutes.” Weather changes rapidly and storms typically blow through in a matter of minutes not hours. This means trips may be delayed for a few minutes to let the weather pass, or we may change the destination to avoid weather.

We recommend bringing a light jacket if you have one, it is typically cooler on the water by ten degrees. It is also good when there is light rain to have a second layer.

In the event of a downpour, the captain will provide rain ponchos for you to cover up with. There is also dry storage for purses and bags in the boat’s console.

What about lightning?

Lightning is very dangerous. We do NOT run during lightning storms. When there is lightning in the area we will cancel, reschedule, or delay tours. Our lightning policy is to shelter in place for 30 minutes after lightning occurs in the area.

What about small craft advisories?

The Coast Guard issues, small craft advisories when there is bad weather on the Gulf. We adhere to all small craft advisories and change our scheduled tours accordingly.

Usually, during small craft advisories, there are strong winds and waves, which make it very uncomfortable to be on a boat. Not to mention, dangerous. In other words, if the weather’s bad we don’t go out.

In the event the weather goes bad when your trip is scheduled, we will do our best to reschedule your trip or get you a refund.

What about hurricanes?

Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida. We love our subtropical climate here for the sunny days in the warm temperatures, But from June 1st through November 1st, Floridians constantly have an eye on the tropics for hurricane development.

In the event of a tropical storm, or expected hurricane landfall, we shut down our business and put the boats up to ensure everybody is safe.

Do’s and Don’ts

Is smoking allowed on the boat?

Smoking and vaping are not allowed on the boat. Please be considerate of your fellow passengers and refrain from using any open flames, lighters, or matches.

Is smoking allowed on the beach or island?

Smoking on the beach is not recommended. Many attempts to completely ban smoking on Marco Island and Collier County beaches have been made over the years. If you choose to smoke or vape on the island beaches, please be considerate of people around you, especially when they are downwind.

If you do choose to smoke on the beach, PLEASE pick up after your litter! Cigarette butts have surpassed plastic straws (banned) as the most collected trash item during our beach clean-ups. Butts are very small and so easily hidden down under the sand by careless people. They are often mistaken by wildlife for food, especially detrimental to our sea turtles and shorebirds. Cigarette filters are extremely slow to degrade and contain multiple toxins such as formaldehyde, arsenic, ammonia, and tar.
